About This Option

Accent lighting picks out what you want noticed - artwork, a stone feature wall, a display niche, planters or a textured panel - and it works purely by contrast, which means it has to be several times brighter than the surrounding ambient level or the effect disappears. We use narrow-beam adjustable spots for art, aimed at roughly 30 degrees from vertical so light hits the piece without reflecting back into your eyes, grazing strips set close to textured walls to exaggerate relief, and small profile lights inside niches and shelving. Fixtures are chosen with high colour rendering so materials and artwork show their true tone rather than a flattened version of it. Accent circuits are always separate and dimmable, because the point of this layer is being able to shift a room from evenly lit to selectively lit in the evening. Used sparingly, it is what makes a room look designed rather than simply bright.
